Let's go back to the beginning. Why did I caught out dairy? Well after reading my coaches story in the vegan body building magazine about how she went vegan in 2009 after issues with chronic sinusitis, I thought to myself hmmm. I too have chronic sinusitis. I was living everyday with an excruciating headache. A headache so bad that my eyeballs felt like they were going to explode out of my head, because there was so much pressure behind them. I was constantly stuffed up couldn't breathe.
I decide why not try it. I thought this is gonna be hard. I love ICE CREAM!!! Especially DQ Cakes!! But after 5 short days of cutting out dairy I could see a difference!!! I could BREATHE!!! My fiancé even could notice a huge difference, he said you aren't stuffed up and you don't have the constant sniffles. If I had something with dairy in it, or snuck something he could tell because I would get all stuffed up again.
So I became really strict about it after the first few weeks because I did sneak in an ice cream cone for the summer but boy did I pay. My throat swelled up and got all tingly and I got stuffy again. I said it isn't worth it at all. So I absolutely consume nothing with dairy in it anymore.
Is it hard? No. It was a little in the beginning but the feeling of being able to breathe, having less to no sinus issues and not feeling bloated all the time makes it easy. It isn't hard to shop either! You just really have to read ingredients and make sure there is no milk, lactate, casein in it. There are other ingredients that have milk or contain milk derivatives, they are listed in my other blog health benefits of a dairy free life.
It has been the best thing I ever did!! Most people become allergic to dairy as an adult, well you probably were always allergic to it but just didn't realize it like me.
And actually soy and almond milk have 50% more calcium than cows milk!!! So why
aren't we all drinking it, because we raised that cows milk was best for us.
WRONG!!!
Humans are not meant to consume dairy i.e. cow's milk. It is made for just that cows. Human organs are different and that is why you feel bloated all the time, from consuming dairy. Our organs are not made to break down the ingredients in cows milk and other dairy products.
So that is how I came about to change my life to a dairy free diet. It isn't all that hard. You can still have ice cream made from soy, or coconuts. It will taste different initially but your body will acquire a taste for it. You can still have sweets, there are all kinds of vegan cupcakes I have made them myself and they were an absolute hit at my family reunion and daughters birthday party!!! Everyone said oh this is delicious none of them knowing they were eating a vegan cupcake or piece of cake!!!
